Really I did! I made something from Pinterest, I know I can't believe it either. I know we all spend a lot of time "pining" and never anytime actually "making" what we pin. Then I say "I wish I had time to make this stuff". Well my friend Cindy came over on Saturday and I said lets go to Hobby Lobby, buy the stuff we need and make something. And that is what we did, it was awesome. It felt so go to finally make something I had been wanting to make.
DIY wooden bead necklace
Supplies:
- Craft paint
- Paint brushes
- Wooden beads
- Leather cord
- Plastic straws
- Jewelry clasp (optional)
I have seen so many of these
wooden beaded necklaces on Pinterest and thought it would be a fun & easy project.
I first decide what colors you want to use. I decided to keep it simple and use one color + gold. I purchased a pack of 6 wooden beads. Since most things look better with odd numbers I went with 3 beads for each necklace.
Next is the fun part - painting. I needed a good way to hold the beads without touching them so I went in the pantry and came out with a few plastic straws. I cut them in half & pinched them to fit in the bead holes. They worked perfectly! I painted all the beads freehand without taping off a straight line. The beads I purchased were unfinished wood, it took a couple of coats of paint to cover the bead.
Once all your beads are dry you can cut a piece of leather cord to your desired length and string the beads on. I choose a long length but didn't want to knot off the end so I used some jewelry end caps to finish it off.
